The Fast400 Saga Ends: IBM and Stracka Settle Lawsuit
by Timothy Prickett Morgan

All things, good or bad or in between, come to an end eventually, and the settlement of the lawsuit between IBM and Jim Stracka, one of the creators of the Fast400 governor buster for AS/400 and iSeries machines, and the cessation of the distribution of the Fast400 product by its distributors is definitely one of those cases where an in-between thing has come to an end. The Fall (and Rise?) of the OS/400 Ecosystem: How the ISVs See It
by Mary Lou Roberts

This summer, IT Jungle ran a series of four stories that examined the state and size of the OS/400 ecosystem and then compared it to other server ecosystems. Our editor in chief, Timothy Prickett Morgan, in his classic style, presented tables and charts galore, constructed market models, and reached some conclusions about the OS/400 market that all seemed to make sense (at least to this industry reporter). The iSeries and the Right App Deal a Blow to Unisys
by Dan Burger

As proponents of the iSeries, we often wonder what IBM is doing to introduce this box to new customers. Well, here is a good example, an opportunity for Big Blue to point to the iSeries and note that in head-to-head competition it is blowing the others guys into the weeds. As is frequently the case, the success of the iSeries is directly connected to a strong application. In this case, the application provider is a company called Information Technology, and the market in which it distinguishes itself is banking and financial services. READ MORE >

As I See It: Prying the Gazelle from the Lion's Teeth
by Victor Rozek

Robert Poli is a first-ballot, hall-of-fame failure at negotiating raises. As a union leader, not only did he fail to get pay increases for his members, but he managed to get some of his people thrown in jail, his union decertified, and 11,350 of its members fired. It's good to be thorough. If, as Jim Rohn observed, "you don't fail overnight; instead failure is a few errors in judgment repeated every day," then Poli must have been working on this one a long, long time. READ MORE >
