Commercial Linux distributor Red Hat and security software maker Symantec have got together to bundle their products together to make it easier for Linux shops to get and install Symantec's software on Red Hat Enterprise Linux.
Under the deal, Red Hat and Symantec are offering two different bundles of software: Secure Server Host and Secure Server Host for Applications. The bundles bring together RHEL 4 Linux with Symantec's Critical System Protection 5.1.2 software, which offers zero-day protection against security holes, viruses, Trojan horses and other exploits as well as locking down operating system features and data at a user level. The Secure Server Host for Applications adds the Red Hat Application Stack, which is RHEL 4 plus the JBoss middleware suite and a MySQL and PostgreSQL database.
The offering is available on machines with up to two processor sockets. Red Hat and Symantec will start selling the bundled software this month, and will push it through their respective X86 and X64 server channels. Pricing information on the bundle was not disclosed.
