As we go to press, application software powerhouse Oracleis updating its five core application stacks, so if you are using Oracle ERP and CRM software, brace yourself for an impending update or upgrade.
On the i5/OS and OS/400 front, Oracle has updated its JD Edwards EnterpriseOne with the 8.12 release and JD Edwards World with the A9.1 "Renaissance" release. EnterpriseOne is written in a mix of Java and C++ generated code and runs on i5/OS-OS/400, Unix, and Windows servers, while the World applications are written in RPG and only run on the i5/OS and OS/400 platform. Oracle has also launched its own Oracle E-Business Suite release 12 as well as the acquired PeopleSoft Enterprise release 9.0 ERP suite and the similarly acquired Siebel release 8.0 customer relationship management suite. The Oracle E-Business, PeopleSoft, and Siebel programs are not supported on the i5/OS and OS/400 platform directly, but are supported on Unix, Windows, and in some cases Linux platforms.
Charles Phillips, Oracle's president, and John Wookey, Oracle's senior vice president of applications development, hosted a big shindig in New York to mark the launch, and IT Jungle will provide detailed coverage on these announcements next week. If you can't wait for our coverage, you can attend the Webcast for yourself next Wednesday.
