HP Adds Entry Itanium Servers, Finally Delivers HP-UX 11i v3

Hewlett-Packard today will continue to refresh its Itanium-based Integrity server line with Intel's dual-core "Montecito" Itanium 9000 processors, adding an entry server and a blade server to the lineup. The company will also finally ship the next version of its HP-UX operating system for PA-RISC and Itanium servers, HP-UX 11i v3. The Itanium servers will support HP-UX 11i v2, the new v3, as well as Windows, Linux, and eventually the OpenVMS proprietary platform. READ MORE >

Unix Is Dead? It Isn't Even Sick. . .

Some industry pundits have made a living predicting the imminent death of the Unix server, usually saying that the market will implode sometime in "the near future." Of course, as the "near future" inevitably becomes the present, their timetable for the Unix funeral is automatically adjusted to move just over the horizon, with the idea that no one will remember the predictions of yesteryear.
