Getting from here to there, reliably

From point A to point B, sometimes through point C and oftentimes on to D or E, more than 200,000 passengers a day count on ANA to get them to their destinations on time.

So, through more than 800 flights per day, ANA's Flight Management System sees to it, that, as Japan's leading airline in on-time performance, ANA continues to remain on time.

And behind this benchmark of punctuality, working away millisecond by millisecond, is HP technology. Find out more.

Schwartz Says Solaris Is Possible for Itanium, Power
by Timothy Prickett Morgan

Within the past several months, Jonathan Schwartz, the new president and chief operating officer of Sun Microsystems, has twice blurted out ideas about what Sun might do with its Solaris operating system that have a lot of heads in the IT industry cocking their heads to one side like Sun's old advertising dog, Network. Sun Debuts Opteron Servers and Workstations
by Timothy Prickett Morgan

Sun Microsystems this week took another step to flesh out its Opteron server line and also launched its expected line of Opteron workstations. The new Sun Fire V40z earns the distinction of being Sun's first officially certified Windows server; it obviously supports Solaris and Linux--which will be the main operating systems on the machines. Sun also announced special promotional pricing on its existing Sun Fire V20z two-way Opteron server to take a jab at the established X86 vendors. READ MORE >

CIOs Sure About Cost Cutting, Unsure of Future
by Timothy Prickett Morgan

The past several years have been tough on IT organizations. Budgets and staff have been cut (or outsourced or offshored) and many systems and their applications have been gutted, all in an effort to do more IT with less money. Companies need to show profits, and cutting expenses is a preferred method for doing so in an economic downturn. But though they are pretty sure of their accomplishments, chief information officers are, according to a new study, unsure of what awaits them in the next few years. READ MORE >

As I See It: The Coming Invasion
by Victor Rozek

Concerned readers will be relieved to know that I was recently granted an interview with a group calling itself The Proudly Paranoid. Ensconced in a secret, undisclosed location, they track world events for signs of nefarious conspiracies. Conspiracy theorists, listen up. This is the story they told me. READ MORE >
