HEWLETT-PACKARD

Getting from here to there, reliably

From point A to point B, sometimes through point C and oftentimes on to D or E, more than 200,000 passengers a day count on ANA to get them to their destinations on time.

So, through more than 800 flights per day, ANA's Flight Management System sees to it, that, as Japan's leading airline in on-time performance, ANA continues to remain on time.

And behind this benchmark of punctuality, working away millisecond by millisecond, is HP technology. Find out more.

Intel Boosts Itanium 2 Chip Performance Modestly
by Timothy Prickett Morgan

The server makers that depend on the Itanium 2 processor are probably a bit annoyed at Intel this week, since the large cache version of the "Madison" Itanium 2 processor is running a few months behind and came out the door at a lower performance point due to yield issues. But the upgrade to the Itanium 2 is out the door and shipping this week, and it is this chip that will take Intel and its partners through to its dual core "Montecito" processor debut in the second half of 2005. HP Refreshes Entry Integrity Line with New Itaniums
by Timothy Prickett Morgan

Intel's long-term plan for the Xeon and Itanium server platforms is to have a single set of platform technologies--including chipsets, motherboards, and I/O peripherals--that support both family of chips. Hewlett-Packard, which is the dominant player in the Itanium market, can't wait that long, and that is why it has grabbed many of the features that are standard on its Xeon-based ProLiant servers and is now putting them into its new Itanium-based Integrity servers. Server Makers Tout Their HPC Clusters At SC2004
by Timothy Prickett Morgan

Supercomputing 2004, in Pittsburgh this week, is one of two major supercomputer trade shows focusing attention on the high performance computing market, which is dominated by various architectures that gang up custom, RISC, or X86 processors into clusters in order to make massive number-crunching machines. Everybody is making a lot of noise about their HPC wares, in the hope that doing so will help them make a lot of money. READ MORE >

Linux, X86 Clusters Take Over Top 500 Supercomputer Ranking
by Timothy Prickett Morgan

All eyes in the high performance computing market were focused on Pittsburgh this week as the semi-annual ranking of the Top 500 supercomputers was announced at the Supercomputing 2004 trade show. Supercomputing is a political as well as a technical endeavor, and the indigenous American server makers were rooting as not one but two systems knocked the reigning champ, NEC's behemoth Earth Simulator, out of the top spot on the list.
