Getting from here to there, reliably

From point A to point B, sometimes through point C and oftentimes on to D or E, more than 200,000 passengers a day count on ANA to get them to their destinations on time.

So, through more than 800 flights per day, ANA's Flight Management System sees to it, that, as Japan's leading airline in on-time performance, ANA continues to remain on time.

And behind this benchmark of punctuality, working away millisecond by millisecond, is HP technology. Find out more.

HP Bites the Bullet, Cuts TruCluster from Future HP-UX
by Timothy Prickett Morgan

Perhaps the toughest part of the acquisition of Compaq by Hewlett-Packard more than three years ago is reconciling the highly respected technology that was embodied in Tru64 Unix and its TruCluster server clustering environment with HP's own well-regarded HP-UX operating system, which was missing its own native clustering. Sun Pumps Up Big Partners to Push Solaris, Linux
by Timothy Prickett Morgan

Having launched itself on a path of promoting Solaris 10 Unix increasingly on X86-based servers, and partially convincing investors, Wall Street, and customers that this is a viable long-term strategy, Sun Microsystems is now at a point where things have to come together. Assuming that Solaris 10 performs as promised when it starts shipping, in early February, the task now is for Sun and its partners to push lots of iron and software. READ MORE >

Server Market Grows in the Third Quarter
by Timothy Prickett Morgan

Gartner and IDC, which long ago became the two arbiters of market share and harbingers of doom (if you happen to be one of the vendors or architectures losing money), have announced their market share results for the third quarter. The good news is that the server market has once again shown some signs of life, which is encouraging for the IT market as a whole. Server shipments are booming, and even with big price cuts, revenues are growing a bit. READ MORE >

IDC Makes Its IT Prognostications for 2005
by Timothy Prickett Morgan

About this time of the year, everyone has had about enough and is looking forward to a fresh start in the new year. If you liked 2004 in the information technology market, then, according to dozens of analysts who track IT for IDC, you are going to like 2005. You see, 2005 will be like 2004--only more so. (That was a joke. Laugh now, because there are not many jokes in IT land these days.) READ MORE >
