Double-Take Software, the developer of high availability clustering software for Windows, last month spent $8.3 million to acquire TimeSpring, a developer of continuous data protection (CDP) software.
Massachusetts-based Double-Take plans to incorporate TimeSpring's TimeData software suite into its own line of mirroring and clustering software for Windows. When the software is integrated, it will allow users of Double-Take's software to "rewind" or "fast-forward" the data on the server and recover to the moment before an unwanted change, the company says.
Of particular interest to Double-Take was TimeSpring's CDP solutions for specific Microsoft products, including SQL Server, SharePoint Services and Exchange Server.
Dean Goodermote, CEO of Double-Take Software, highlighted the engineering expertise of the Montreal, Canada-based company as a prime reason for the acquisition. "TimeSpring’s engineering expertise, specifically in the area of file systems and application level recovery, fits extremely well into Double-Take's core capabilities," he says.
