Microsoft Issues Three Security Fixes on "Patch Tuesday"

Microsoft issued three new security patches for vulnerabilities in the Windows operating system yesterday, the company's first monthly "Patch Tuesday" of 2005. Two of the patches are deemed "critical" and fix problems that had recently been made public, while the third patch fixes an "important" vulnerability that Microsoft was made aware of through private means. Microsoft Lures PeopleSoft Customers with Discounts

Sensing an opportunity to scoop up some disaffected PeopleSoft customers, Microsoft on Monday announced a new program to encourage users to ditch their PeopleSoft ERP systems for new the Microsoft Business Solutions ERP system by providing double-digit discounts on license fees, as well as other incentives. The software giant is also seeking to attract partners and ISVs that base their business on PeopleSoft, which has now been officially acquired by Oracle. READ MORE >

Tango/04 Computing Group is embarking upon a new IT discipline with the latest release of its systems management suite for iSeries and Windows. With VISUAL Message Center 6.0, the company is now providing business service management (BSM), a relatively new strategy for melding the monitoring of IT infrastructure, applications, and business processes to create a more wholesome view of how these interdependencies affect service levels. HP Preps Server Announcements for January 18
