SWsoft Streamlines the Move from Physical to Virtual Windows Servers

SWsoft announced new virtualization software yesterday designed to streamline the move from a physical Windows server environment to a virtual one.
Virtuozzo for Windows 3.5.1 introduces a new "physical-to-virtual" tool designed to make it easy to move to a virtual server environment. The graphical tool helps determine what resources a server and application require to ensure that the virtual server delivers the same performance, the Herndon, Virginia, company says.
The new release, which builds on support for 64-bit applications introduced with Virtuozzo for Windows 3.5 last November, brings other enhancements, including performance increases for accessing memory and handling read/write operations, and support for Windows Server 2003 R2, which just became available, and Microsoft Small Business Server 2003. At the same time, SWsoft announced Virtuozzo for Linux 3.0 and a new release of its management tools.
The new Virtuozzo products for Windows and Linux servers start at $1,000 per CPU, while the management tools cost $1000 per seat for an unlimited number of servers. These prices compare negatively with VMware's new pricing strategy for its new VMware Server product (see VMware Gives Away Updated GSX Server for Free").
