Virtuozzo Users Get Microsoft Support

Published: February 21, 2007

by Alex Woodie

Windows and Linux virtualization software developer SWsoft has inked a deal with Microsoft that will see the software giant providing technical support for users of SWsoft's Virtuozzo virtualization software, the companies announced yesterday.

Virtuozzo is a piece of software that can partition a Windows or Linux operating system into hundreds of virtual environments running on a single physical server. The software is commonly used in hosting environments, where data center operators seek to separate their clients' operating environments, while maintaining the benefits of high server utilization rates.

As part of the agreement with Microsoft, SWsoft will receive 24-hour, 7-day support from Microsoft for its enterprise and hosting customers operating Windows-based applications within Virtuozzo virtual environments. Virtuozzo customer's main points of contact will still be with SWsoft, but Microsoft representatives won't be too far behind.

"We are pleased to cooperate more closely with Microsoft for our customers' benefit," said Serguei Beloussov, CEO of SWsoft, which is based in Herndon, Virginia.

Virtualization is critical for the continued growth of the industry, says John Zanni, director of worldwide hosting for Microsoft. "By providing the highest level of support possible in tandem with SWsoft, we hope to continue to drive adoption of virtual environments, helping service providers further reduce costs and improve efficiencies."
