Today is the Big 'Heroes Happen Here' Launch Event

Published: February 27, 2008

The hoopla and the hype will be out in force in Los Angeles today as Microsoft officially launches Windows Server 2008, SQL Server 2008, Visual Studio 2008, and other products at its big "Heroes Happen Here" launch event.

Microsoft has been planning its big Heroes shindig for the last eight months, although until recently it wasn't clear if Windows Server 2008 would actually be available by the end of February. As it turns out, it will, although some other products--namely SQL Server 2008, which was recently delayed--will not be available for some time. (Visual Studio 2008, for what it's worth, has been available for months.)

Lately, there's been a lot of anticipation over what will actually take place at the Los Angeles Convention Center, and if Microsoft will make any surprise announcements. Some people have speculated that Microsoft may have some pretty cool open source visualization-type applications up its sleeve, but we'll just have to wait and see.

Registration is booked solid for the LA launch event, as well as the second launch event taking place next week in Boston. However, registration is open for events in subsequent cities included in the "launch wave." Microsoft will also be providing some live feeds of today's event over the Web; check the Heroes Happen Here Web page for more information.
