Microsoft Promises To Be Less Secretive, More Open
by Alex Woodie

Microsoft last week promised to take a much more open stance as it pertains to sharing APIs, protocols, and other technical documentation with third-party developers, including open source developers. 'Centro' and 'Cougar' Become Windows Server Essentials
by Alex Woodie

Microsoft last week grouped its bundles of Windows software for small and midsize businesses under the Windows Server Essentials brand. 'Centro,' the former codename for the new midsize business offering that has been in development for two-and-a-half years years, becomes Windows Essential Server 2008, while 'Cougar,' the codename for the small business offering, continues its lineage with the Windows Small Business Server 2008 name. Both are being formally introduced today at the 'Hero's Happen Here' Windows launch event taking place in Los Angeles Wednesday. READ MORE >

Microsoft Presses Forward with Yahoo, as Shareholder Lawsuits Mount
by Alex Woodie

With little real action visible in Microsoft's $41-billion bid to buy Yahoo, the software giant decided to reiterate to the public why the marriage will work. In an executive letter posted to Microsoft's Web site, Kevin Johnson, president of the Platforms & Services Division, lays out the reasons why a combined company makes sense. Meanwhile, several groups of Yahoo shareholders are suing that company for not taking the offer. READ MORE >
