Defrag Manager Breathes New Life into Sharp PCs

How would you boost the performance and extend the lifespan of 10,000 Windows systems deployed across multiple sites? If you're Sharp Healthcare, a $1.4-billion network of seven hospitals and three other medical offices in San Diego County, California, you install Winternals' Defrag Manager to keep those babies running like new, from the relative comfort of a single location.
Defrag Manager is an systems management tool for defragmenting drives on large networks of PCs and servers. The tool enables administrators to remotely defrag hundreds to thousands of computers from a single location, without having to interact with individual systems.
In Sharp's case, slow PCs were causing disruption in the quality of service its doctors and nurses were providing. "When our systems are not performing at their peak level, many times critical tasks are slowed down," says Daniel Covell, senior systems analyst for Sharp. "This adds frustration to the daily routines of physicians, nursing staff, and all clinical staff in general, making their jobs more difficult. Anything we can do to increase system performance is advantageous to our staff and ultimately our patients."
Covell says it was very easy to justify the investment in the Winternals product "We recognized a huge performance gain just by running Defrag Manager once," he said. The company also expects Defrag Manager to help them stretch the useful lives of their computers from three years to four years.
