Self-Service Outlook Recovery Tool Announced by Lucid8

Lucid8 last week announced a new release of its DigiScope tool that enables end users to recover items that had been mistakenly deleted from their Exchange-based Outlook clients. The offering requires Dell storage devices, and will be available later this year.
Recovering deleted Outlook items can be the source of intense frustration for users and IT staff alike. While the items can often be restored from Exchange backups, the process is tedious, and consumes the valuable time of IT staff.
Lucid8 and Dell hope to remedy that later this year, when the companies expect to deliver an integration point between Lucid8's DigiScope 2.0 eDiscovery and Recovery tool and Dells' Auto-Snapshot Manager for Exchange, a management utility that it ships with its line of EqualLogic PS5000 Series iSCSI storage arrays.
When the integration is complete, DigiScope users will get new Outlook plug-ins that enable them to recover entire mailboxes, folders, and individual messages directly from their PCs.
The offering will also include so-called eDiscovery capabilities, which are important for complying with new data retention regulations, such as the changes made in 2006 to the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure, which stipulates how organizations must produce historical e-mails during the discovery phase of legal cases. According to the Enterprise Strategy Group, e-mail accounts for more than 75 percent of requested record types in legal proceedings and regulatory inquiries.
Lucid8 launched DigiScope about a year ago, and version 2.0 became available earlier this year (although the Outlook self-recovery feature won't be expected until July at the earliest). Pricing for version 2.0 starts at $759 for a single Exchange store. For more information, see www.lucid8.com.
