ScriptLogic Cranks Up the Speed on Windows Security Audit Tool

Published: May 10, 2006

by Alex Woodie

ScriptLogic last week unveiled Enterprise Security Reporter 3.0, a new release of its security auditing tool for analyzing security settings and user permissions on Windows servers and networks. With this release, customers will gather audit-related information from their far-flung systems up to five times faster than before, and will be creating custom reports in a matter of minutes--not the days of development work custom reporting took with the previous release, the Florida company says.

Like never before, time is of vital importance to Windows shops, especially when it comes to protecting Windows clients and servers from security threats, both internal and external, and proving to auditors that the enterprise is secure by providing auditable reports. To that end, ScriptLogic introduced a range of enhancements to Enterprise Security Reporter in version 3.0 that should help administrators more quickly accomplish their Windows security-related tasks.

ScriptLogic eschews the locally installed "agent" approach in the development of version 3.0, and the result is a discovery engine that can monitor the states of geographically dispersed systems, all from the comfort of one centrally located Active Directory implementation. This release also brings a new "delta comparison" option that will highlight the differences between two Enterprise Security Reporter snapshots taken at different times, including the addition or removal of users, groups, computers, and other resources in Active Directory, the company says. Administrators can use the pre-canned reports that ScriptLogic provides, or develop their own using the company's tools. All reports are centrally stored in SQL Server.

"Our customers are looking for products that give them immediate insight into the security posture of their IT enterprises," says Brian Small, vice president of product development at ScriptLogic. With Enterprise Security Reporter, "IT administrators can see quickly where their vulnerabilities are and how they occur." Enterprise Security Reporter in version 3.0 is available immediately, starting at $749 per server.
