A second beta release for Exchange Server 2007 will be available to the public and Microsoft business partners by the end of July, the software giant announced this week. Microsoft made the announcement in a PressPass Q&A with Terry Myerson, the general manager of the Exchange Server group at Microsoft.
According to Myerson, the new release of Exchange Server will include better tools for managing the e-mail store, which has been a pain point for many Exchange admins. "We also have targeted the growing number of mobile professionals out there who don't sit at a desk all day, but still desire--and demand--access to everything they store in their inbox," he says.
Specifically, users will gain the capability to search on a device, to perform a self-service "remote device wipe," to read HTML mail, to flag messages, better document access, and meeting request handling, he says. "Users will be able to search and access all of the e-mail that resides on their Exchange Server 2007 using their handheld device," Myerson says. "Previously, if you wanted to find an e-mail that was sent, say a month ago, you'd have to go back and search on your laptop to access it."
Exchange Server 2007 is still on track to ship by the end of the year, Myerson says. Interested parties can sign up for the upcoming beta at www.microsoft.com/exchange/preview.
