Microsoft Back on the Top 500 List of Biggest HPC Systems
by Alex Woodie

Microsoft has regained two places on the Top 500 list of the world's biggest supercomputers. According to the latest list, which was released this week in conjunction with the International Supercomputing Conference, Windows Compute Cluster Server (CCS) has regained two slots on the Top 500 ranking after falling off the list last November. The company also reported headway in Windows CCS deployments, primarily among smaller, departmental-level clusters, and reiterated its high performance computing (HPC) commitment to OEMs.READ MORE >

Is Windows Vista Really More Secure Than Linux or OS X?
by Alex Woodie

In the first six months of availability, Windows Vista has proved itself to be more secure than either Linux or Mac OS/X, as well as its predecessor, Windows XP, according to a report published by a Microsoft security researcher this month. Last week, Canonical, the commercial entity behind the Ubuntu variant of Debian, and Mandriva, which is itself a conglomeration of three Linux vendors, passed on such deals.READ MORE >

Microsoft Concedes to Google, Will Scale Back Search with Vista SP1
by Alex Woodie

Representatives from Microsoft and Google were due to appear in court yesterday to finalize a plan to make Google's Desktop Search service integrate more easily with Windows Vista's integrated search capability.
