Devon IT Offers SafeBook for Less Than $600

Devon IT has dropped the price of its thin client notebook computer, the SafeBook, and added new security features with the delivery of a new model last month.

Devon IT launched its SafeBook in October 2006 providing its customers with the portability benefits of notebook computing without succumbing to the security problems that notebooks can pose. Since it doesn't have a hard drive and relies on the network to deliver all its data to the screen, the SafeBook effectively eliminates the potential for a lost or stolen notebook from becoming a security liability to the group issuing them.

Last month Devon IT introduced a new SafeBook model that starts at $599. Like the first version, the new version has no hard drive and relies on Citrix ICA and Microsoft RDP protocols to deliver data.

Besides price, the other big improvement with the new SafeBook is built-in support for 802.11 and 3G aircard support. The computers support WEP, WPA-PSK, and WPA2-PSK encryption technologies and also includes a PCM-CIA slot for adding additional wireless modems.

Joe Makoid, president of the King of Prussia, Pennsylvania, company, says SafeBook is Devon IT's hottest selling product. "We are excited to launch our innovative new SafeBook model at the most affordable price on the market, and to continue to expand the use of the server-based computing model," he says.
