Microsoft's Software Assurance Customers On the Fence, Forrester Says

If a recent survey by Forrester Research is accurate, Microsoft could be facing a customer exodus from Software Assurance, the multi-year software maintenance program that has stirred controversy in recent years. A report released by the analyst group this week suggests more than three quarters of current Software Assurance contracts will end this year, but less than one quarter of customers plan to renew the contracts at the same level. A Potpourri of Fixes Marks A Slow Patch Tuesday

It was a relatively quiet Patch Tuesday yesterday as Microsoft issued six patches for 11 vulnerabilities affecting products ranging from clients to servers and from the .NET runtime to Excel and the Vista firewall. None of the fixes for the July Patch Tuesday addressed so-called zero-day problems, in stark contrast to the array of zero-day patches Microsoft issued earlier this year. Hype Machine Prepped for Windows Server 2008 Launch

Microsoft will officially launch Windows Server 2008 in Los Angeles on February 27, 2008, the software giant announced this week from its Worldwide Partner Conference in Denver, Colorado. In addition to launching the product once codenamed "Longhorn" server, Microsoft will introduce SQL Server 2008 and Visual Studio 2008 in a triple-launch event that Microsoft is already calling "the most important enterprise launch in company history."
