Gates, Raikes to Keynote OCS 2007 Launch Next Week

Published: October 10, 2007

by Alex Woodie

Microsoft chairman Bill Gates and Jeff Raikes, head of the Microsoft Business Division, will give the opening keynote at the big launch of Office Communications Server 2007, Microsoft's new voice over IP (VoIP) server, in San Francisco next Tuesday.

It has been several months since the public has been treated to a Microsoft product launch spectacle. And when next week's "Unified Communications" launch is over, it will be several more months--at the big triple launch of Windows Server 2008, SQL Server 2008, and Visual Studio 2008 next year--until we're treated to another. So we'd better make this one last.

And last it should, as OCS 2007 is probably the company's biggest product launch for businesses for the entire year. This product has been in development for years, and is expected to have a big impact on how teams of people communicate and collaborate.

Stay tuned next week for more information on the launch and on the OCS 2007 family of products.
