California Manufacturer Replaces Oracle with Dynamics AX

Published: October 11, 2006

by Alex Woodie

Network Equipment Technologies (NET), a Fremont, California-based manufacturer of voice over IP (VoIP) and telephony equipment, will implement the Dynamic AX (formerly Axapta) ERP system from Microsoft to mange its manufacturing activities, the software vendor announced this week.

The Dynamics AX installation will begin next April, and will eventually support all 250 NET employees and its 30 company offices around the world. Fullscope, a Microsoft business partner and Dynamics AX specialist based in Athens, Georgia, will handle the implementation and migration from an Oracle ERP system.

NET's CIO, Talbot Harty, says the decision to move from Oracle to Dynamics AX was straightforward. "For us, the product cost was less than the cost of one year's maintenance for our current system. In addition, it's easier to configure, it's familiar to our people, and it's nimble enough to adapt to the changing needs of our company."

In addition to the Dynamics AX software, NET will implement SQL Server and several client-side Office applications that work with Microsoft's ERP system. The manufacturer will also install Microsoft SharePoint Portal Server and integrate it with its own VX Voice Exchange technology to help its employees collaborate.
