IBM Boosts Support For Composite Apps, Windows, and Unix with Cluster Middleware

IBM last week launched Tivoli System Automation for Multiplatforms version 2.2, a new release of its software for ensuring the availability of cross-platform applications running across Unix, Linux, and Windows operating systems. With this release, the company has introduced support for composite applications, deeper integration with HACMP and Microsoft Windows clustering, and support for Novell SuSE Linux version 10.

With version 2.2, IBM has added a second component to the suite. In previous releases, users only had to worry about the Base Component, which delivered a cluster manager for applications and middleware running in clustered server environments. With this release, IBM added a new End-to-End component that that provides high availability and disaster recovery for composite applications. This is accomplished by providing integration with IBM's High Availability Cluster Multiprocessing (HACMP) for AIX 5L, with Microsoft Server Cluster Service (MSCS), and through a command line interface.

Tivoli System Automation for Multiplatforms version 2.2 runs on IBM's Linux platforms, including System i, System z, System p, System x, and BladeCenter, as well as any Linux running on any 32-bit Intel-based server or 64-bit AMD-based server. The software became available Friday.
