Wyse Ships New Thin Client Management Software

Published: November 1, 2006

by Alex Woodie

Thin client maker Wyse Technology last week announced the general availability of new releases of Wyse Streaming Manager (WSM) and Wyse Device Manager (WDM), two important components of its thin client software suite.

One of the biggest reasons organizations deploy thin client infrastructures is eliminating the morass of complexity that can come with running a network of full-blown desktop machines. To that end, Wyse offers its WDM and WSM products to handle application provisioning, directory integration, reporting, and patching of client operating systems.

Wyse says it has increased the manageability of its thin clients with the introduction of WSM 1.2 and WDM 4.5. According to Wyse, the new WSM release features improvements in the areas of high availability, provisioning, Active Directory Integration, and streaming device support. It also features a more streamlined set-up process that guides the user through tasks, such as setting up patching mechanisms, and also allows administrators to remotely control the thin client from a central console.

The computer maker has made similar improvements with WDM 4.5, including better reliability and the capability to retry failed updates; support for Active Directory, as well as Oracle and SQL Server databases; better reporting; and new delegation features that allow administrators to allow other administrators to control certain aspects of the devices.
