Bill Gates Sells 11 Million Microsoft Shares

Published: November 15, 2006

by Alex Woodie

Microsoft chairman Bill Gates has sold nearly 11 million shares of Microsoft stock recently, according to filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

According to the filings, Gates sold 10.9 million shares of Microsoft stock early last week, when the stock was trading between about $28.60 and $29.20 per share, which was near the stock's 52-week high. That would make his stock sales worth about $316 million, before taxes.

Gates, who has been the world's richest man for most of the last decade, still holds more than 942 million shares of Microsoft stock, worth about $27 billion.
