  • Pennsylvania Hospitals Tap AHS for Medical Billing Solution

    April 7, 2009 Alex Woodie

Two Summit Health hospitals in southern Pennsylvania are reporting good returns with Advantedge Healthcare Solutions‘ physician billing system, which runs exclusively on the System i server, AHS announced last week.

Cumberland Valley Medical Services, the physicians services unit for Chambersburg Hospital and Waynesboro Hospital, has expanded its contract with AHS to include physician billing services for the two dozen anesthesiologists and Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists. AHS is hosting the solution, and delivering access to anesthesiologists and CRNAs through Web browsers.

As a result of the contract expansion, anesthesiologists and CRNAs at the Waynesboro hospital will get access to the same AHS services that their counterparts at Chambersburg Hospital started using a year ago. “Over the past year, we’ve experienced strong results for our anesthesiologists currently supported by AHS,” says Niki Showe, vice president of physician practices for Summit Health.

AHS claims its proprietary software delivers an optimized workflow for specialist physician billing, and can be counted on to lead to improved revenue for clients. The company, which is based in Warren, New Jersey, delivers medical billing solutions for hospitals, doctors’ offices, radiologists, cardiologists, anesthesiologists, neonatologists, surgery centers, internal medicine practices, and other specialty medical offices and services.

AHS is affiliated with IBM‘s vertical industry programs for the healthcare industry, and develops exclusively on the System i server, which still maintains a following in the healthcare industry. In 2007, AHS founder Stephen Sullivan gave this rationale for why i: “We’ve built AHS around IBM’s System i because it allows us to focus all of our development resources on medical applications and features.”
