  • DevCon Delivers iSeries Education; IT Jungle Offers a Deal

    October 11, 2010 Dan Burger

Your budget for IBM i training and education probably doesn’t have “The sky’s the limit” penciled into the first line. But it’s a fact modern skills go a long way toward making the IBM i a modern platform. Here’s your chance to bump up your skills, become a more productive and valuable programmer or system admin, and go easy on the budget. As a reader of IT Jungle newsletters you can save yourself or your company some money. That’s never been discouraged to the best of my knowledge.

Your opportunity comes next month at the 12th Annual iSeries DevCon, which takes place November 15 through 17 at the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. If you register and note that you heard about DevCon through IT Jungle, you’ll get 15 percent knocked off the full event registration fee of $1,699 (price goes up after October 15). That’s a $250 reward for choosing wisely in the “How Did You Hear About Us” box on the registration page.

But there’s even a bigger prize. Two IT Jungle readers will be selected for complimentary registrations and three nights lodging at the Rio. To get in on that deal, send an email to IT Jungle with your name, phone number, and place of employment. You’ll receive a reply confirming that you’re entered in the selection process, which will take place October 15, giving you one month to find a cheap flight and pack your bags.

The Tracks and Sessions tab on the DevCon Web site will give you a glimpse of the many subjects presented during the three-day conference. The five educational tracks being offered are:

    • Getting the most from System i
    • Leveraging RPG for System i application development
    • Developing world-class Web applications
    • Extending System i applications with emerging technologies, and
    • Managing and administrating in a System i environment

Modern technologies such as PHP, SQL, XML, encryption, free form RPG, Java, and .NET are all part of the session agenda.

Jump start day sessions (a three-hour session in the morning and another in the afternoon) include topics such as Rational tools, PHP, and subroutines and subprocedures. These sessions are included in the full registration fee noted above, or can be attended without attending the full conference. You can also register to attend the conference without the jump start sessions. See the registration page for pricing appropriate to the various options and cut-off dates for discounted registrations.
