Insurance Company Taps CoSentry for Co-Location Services

North Dakota-based Nodak Mutual Insurance Company has selected CoSentry to host a copy of data originating on its IBM i and Intel-based servers, the company announced last month. Founded in Fargo, North Dakota, more than 60 years ago to serve the needs of the area’s farms, Nodak today provides insurance for cars, homes, lives, crops, health, and businesses. It also sells securities and provides annuities. Nodak uses a combination of IBM i and Intel servers to run its business. As part of its deal with CoSentry, Nodak will utilize the co-location provider’s IBM i and Intel processing resources. Larry Marxen, Nodak’s director of information systems, explains the decision to expand the relationship with CoSentry. “We were looking for a smarter, faster way to accommodate increased demands in power and capacity, yet we require complete control of privacy and security,” he states in a press release. “The CoSentry solution made a lot of sense,” he continued. “It allowed us to intelligently protect our iSeries and Intel-based systems, take advantage of the financial advantages of virtualization, and the important LAN replication technology available from the [Intel-based] Never Fail product.” Nodak should realize several benefits from the multi-year contract extension, including: improved test internals; delivery of redundant connectivity routes; and the capability to potentially migrate the customers’ environment in either a physical or virtual mode. CoSentry operates four data centers in the Great Plains, including one each in Omaha, Nebraska; Papillion, Nebraska; Kansas City, Missouri; and Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
