  • RJS Nabs Custom App Dev Firm

    August 7, 2012 Alex Woodie

RJS Software Systems last week announced that it’s acquired NowData, a fellow Burnsville, Minnesota, company that specializes in building custom Web-based programs, including data warehouses and mobile apps.

The company NowData has been in business since 1999, and counts customers such as the Mayo Foundation, the State of Minnesota, and Great Clips. The company is well-versed in the 4GL development environment from 4D, which generates Web-enabled database applications that run on the Windows and Mac operating systems. Rounding out its skills palette are dabs of PHP, Adobe Flex, JavaScript, XML, and HTML, which enable it to create slick interfaces for Web apps.

RJS–which primarily targets IBM i and Windows platforms with its software– plans to use its NowData acquisition to grow its managed services business and strengthen its development team. The company will retain its name for now, but NowData employees will move immediately into RJS’ headquarters in the suburban Twin Cities town of Burnsville.

“NowData has an excellent reputation for providing world-class customer service,” RJS general manager Michael Bergstrom says in a press release. “They are a perfect complement to our existing development team and will allow us to expand our managed services business, and more quickly execute customer projects and software implementations.”

This was the first acquisition for RJS since its 2006 purchase of Ultimate Data Systems, another Twin Cities company and IBM business partner that worked in the System i sales channel.
