  • IBM i PTF Guide, Volume 25, Numbers 51, 52, And 53

    January 10, 2024 Doug Bidwell

With a holiday that started on December 15, the good folks at IT Jungle have a bit of catching up to do with the IBM i PTF Guide, which just kept rolling through 53 editions in 2023. (Yes, we know there are only 52 weeks in a year, but the way the days line up, you can get an extra edition of the Guide in a year.)

In Volume 25, Number 51, we had Security Bulletin: IBM WebSphere Application Server Liberty for IBM i is vulnerable to denial of service due to a flaw in handling multiplexed streams (CVE-2023-44487), which you can read more about at this link. Here are the related fixes:

    IBM i Release	PTF Numbers
    7.5	SI85401
    7.4	SI85402
    7.3	SI85403
    7.2	SI85404

There were no PTF Groups by IBM i release level since we last published in Issue 51:

Tip O’ The Week: IBM i Access Client Solutions uses the same IBM i host servers as the other IBM i Access Family products. Beginning with version 1.1.9.1 an  IBM i Access Family license is no longer required to use  the 5250 emulation and Data Transfer features.

New (or Updated) links added to the ‘Links’ tab in the guide this week:

    • EIM_NAS: Enterprise Identity Mapping (EIM)/Network Authentication Services (NAS) Error Codes and Solutions, 645541

New (or Updated) links added to the ‘ACS_NAV’ tab in the guide this week:

    • Applications deployed within ADMINx jobs, 6615341

There were new defectives the week of 12/09/23. Here were the defective PTF rundown, which is the last defective for each release:

    	Defect Defective	APAR	Fixing
    	Date PTF PTF
    	--------	--------	-------	------------------------
    7.5	10/06/23	SI84569 SE80598	SI84813 (When available)
    7.4	10/06/23	SI84583 SE80598	SI84817 (When available)

Be sure to access the link in the Guide for further details.

Now, on to Issue 52. No security vulnerabilities, but there were some PTF Groups, as follows:

    PTF Groups 7.5:

    • Temporary Storage PTFs

    PTF Groups 7.4:

    • Temporary Storage PTFs

In Issue 53, there was some security vulnerability action, with Security Bulletin: IBM Facsimile Support for i is vulnerable to a local user gaining elevated privileges due to an unqualified library call (CVE-2023-43064), which you can read more about here. The IBM i PTF number for IBM i 5798-FAX version V5R8M0 contains the fix for the vulnerability.
