  • Pat Townsend Hooks up with Solutionary for Outsourced i Log Monitoring

    June 9, 2009 Alex Woodie

i OS security software developer Patrick Townsend Security Solutions (PTSS) recently announced it’s working with managed service provider Solutionary to help organizations bring their System i (AS/400) servers into compliance with PCI, Sarbanes-Oxley, and HIPAA regulations.

In addition to developing i OS encryption tools and encryption key management tools, PTSS writes software that translates critical i OS messages from the System i format into the universally understood syslog format. In this manner, messages from System i systems can be collected and parsed with messages from other systems as part of an organization’s overall security and regulatory compliance imitative.

Now PTSS is pairing this product, called the Alliance LogAgent, with the managed security and compliance services of Solutionary, a managed security services firm based in Nebraska and Pennsylvania. This gives System i customers an option to outsource security- and compliance-related tasks, says PTSS president and CEO Pat Townsend.

“This partnership makes it easy and affordable for many of our customers to meet their data security initiatives,” Townsend says in a press release. “While our LogAgent solution does the heavy lifting of collecting, translating, and communicating security events from the System i, Solutionary’s security services make it possible to monitor and process those events more cost-effectively.”

Solutionary CTO Mike Hrabik says the PTSS partnership is a “win-win” for customers. “Clients get the labor-intensive front-end and back-end processing off-loaded to specialists who know precisely what the business needs for success,” Hrabik says in a written statement.

Solutionary and PTSS, which is based in Washington state, recently conducted a Webinar on the topic of log monitoring in System i environments. To see a recording of the Webinar, go to this Web link.
