  • Roto Rooter Taps Quadrant for IBM i Fax Solution

    July 12, 2011 Alex Woodie

Roto-Rooter has successfully started using a new fax solution from Quadrant Software, the vendor announced last week. Roto-Rooter was forced to look for a new fax solution after its old product, IBM Domino Fax for i5/OS, was pulled from the market.

IBM announced last October that it would stop selling Domino Fax for i5/OS on January 14, 2011, and stop supporting the offering on April 30, 2012. The announcement provided an opening for vendors like Quadrant Software to fill the void left by IBM’s departure from the market.

Quadrant’s replacement for the Domino fax product is FastFax for Domino i, which enables users to send and receive faxes using Lotus Notes email. The vendor says that, because this offering supports the SNDDOMFAX command, it is the only fax replacement solution that is “truly integrated” and requires no additional programming to implement.

One of the Ohio-based plumbing service company’s offices was a user of Quadrant’s forms management offering, called Formtastic, and had good things to say about the software vendor’s support, according to a Roto-Rooter manager. So when the FastFax for Domino i option was recommended by Roto-Rooter’s IBM business partner, Midrange Solutions, they decided to give it a try.

The switch from Domino Fax to FastFax was without incident, according to Dave Stall, Roto Rooter’s i5 hardware and operating systems manager. “Our users don’t even know we made the switch,” he says in a press release. “The only thing they know is that faxes no longer come in as TIFs. They are PDFs. I have not had one phone call questioning what we had done.”
