  • AOS Teams with ObjectFX for Real-Time Trucking Software

    August 21, 2007 Alex Woodie

Add On Systems, a developer of trucking software for the System i server, has partnered with ObjectFX to deliver a product called FleetScape that will give executives and managers at trucking companies a new browser-based interface that should streamline decision making.

When Add On Systems (AOS) ships the new FleetScape product later this year, it will allow executives, managers, and other people at a trucking company to pull up a dynamic map on a Web browser that shows a variety of information about their operations, including the location of trucks, trailers, containers, warehouses, fuel stops, repair facilities and drop yards.

The software will also provide a variety of analytics that help companies monitor and improve their operations, such as screens that highlight regions with high or low revenue potential, and areas with excess unused capacity. Users will be able to customize the systems to address their own unique business needs, the companies say.

FleetScape will be based on real-time, location-based technology developed by ObjectFX, which is based in Minneapolis, Minnesota. ObjectFX’s flagship offering is a Java-based product called SpatialFX that allows users to view and interact with real-time, integrated views of information in a location-based context. The technology is already in use at UPS, FedEx, the USPS, United Airlines, the U.S. Army, and other organizations with large logistics operations.

“FleetScape offers customers the power and flexibility of a custom solution without the delay and expense of a custom development project,” says Kent Hildreth, vice president of AOS> “With FleetScape, everyone in a trucking operation, from executives to dispatchers, can make better informed decisions.”

FleetScape is slated to be available in the fourth quarter.

AOS has been writing add-on products to existing OS/400- and i5/OS-based fleet management systems since it was founded in 1993. Today, the Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, company counts more than 150 customers–all of them users of the IBM midrange server–and offers interfaces to many of the platform’s popular fleet management systems, primarily the IES suite from Innovative Computing Corporation (ICC), but also TMW Systems‘s TL2000.

For more information on AOS’ offerings, see its Web site at www.addonsystems.com.
