  • IBS to Sell Dynaman WMS Around the World

    November 13, 2012 Alex Woodie

International Business Systems last week announced that it is taking its Dynaman warehouse management system (WMS) global. The Windows-based WMS has been in use in Northern Europe for the last 20 years, and now IBS is selling and supporting the software to wholesale distribution operations in other parts of the world, including its IBM i ERP customer base.

IBS Dynaman is a supply chain execution application designed to automate common distribution center (DC) and third party logistics (3PL) activities. The software supports functions like receiving and put-away; inventory management and replenishment; work order scheduling and light manufacturing; picking, packing, and shipping; billing and activity registration; and dock and yard management.

The application utilizes EDI and radio frequency identification (RFID) communications, supports advanced WMS functionality such as cross-docking, just in time (JIT) delivery, vendor managed inventory (VMI), supply in line sequence, and reverse logistics. A single instance of the software can be used to run multiple DCs. It can also be used to run public DCs that hold inventory for multiple owners.

Dynaman was developed using Microsoft .NET, and it runs on the Windows Server stack, IBS says. IBS has sold Dynaman as a component of IBS Enterprise, its IBM i or Windows-based ERP system for distributors. The software has been used in the Benelux area for about 20 years, and has been used by companies such as XL, DSV, Conad, Stockhabo, O. Smeding, Dematra, Alidis, and Euro-Fitting Management, IBS says.

But now the Stockholm, Sweden-based software company sees a brighter future for selling Dynaman as a separate product. It knows how to integrate Dynaman with IBM i-based ERP systems, owing to the experience of hooking it into IBS Enterprise, and hopes to take a chunk of the midrange WMS market in North America for itself.

“The supply chain is evolving at an unprecedented pace especially for mid-market companies, as customers and trading partners demand more services, visibility and value in shorter delivery times at a lower cost,” said Doug Braun, the former executive of WMS vendor RedPrairie who took the CEO job at IBS earlier this year. “IBS Dynaman has the power and functionality to meet these demands today, and the configurability to address unforeseen changes as business evolves at a price that distributors can afford.”
