  • Oracle Takes JD Edwards Into the Rental Business

    November 18, 2014 Alex Woodie

JD Edwards ERP software has been used in a lot of industries over the decades, including the manufacturing, energy, pharmaceutical, retail, and media industries. This month, JDE owner Oracle took the venerable brand into a new industry: equipment rental.

The new EnterpriseOne Rental Management offering is a customized version of the ERP system designed for use by companies that rent a variety of gear, including heavy equipment, medical equipment, oil and gas equipment, mining equipment, and construction equipment.

The software manages many aspects of running a rental business, including writing rental contacts and agreements, reservations for future rentals, inventory management, and allocating rental costs.

Oracle also unveiled a reporting solution to go along with the new rental ERP. Called simply JD Edwards EnterpriseOne One View Reporting for Rental Management, the software allows customers to manage every aspect of equipment and rental inventory, “with confidence and accuracy,” the software giant says.

As if that wasn’t enough, Oracle also announced that it has added eight new mobile enterprise applications to the JD Edwards EnterpriseOne lineup. According to the Redwood City, California, company, the new mobile apps for E1 will let users review the general ledger, invoices, receipts, and voucher transactions within a batch, and approve the batch to be posted, all from their mobile devices.

The eight new apps–which follow in the wake of the 57 new apps it released in September–are available for iOS and Android via the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store.

But wait, there’s more! As if the mobile apps and rental ERP weren’t enough, the company had two more product upgrades bundled into its November EnterpriseOne announcement, including new reporting functionality specific to the operations of wineries, and support for the Java API for XPI Web Services (JAX-RPC) to adapt to new JAX-WS versions of the Java technology.
