  • Mobile Banking Application Proving Very Popular, Jack Henry Says

    December 9, 2008 Alex Woodie

These are tough economic times, to be sure. But if there’s one bright spot in the forecast for the IT industry, it’s the surging interest in mobile computing. To that end, Jack Henry & Associates announced that its browser-based mobile banking application, whimsically called goDough, has been successfully adopted by more than 100 customers over the last 12 months, enabling its customers’ customers to check dwindling account balances with unparalleled ease.

Unveiled in November 2007, goDough enables customers of banks and credit unions that use Jack Henry’s core banking software to do many of the things they would do in a branch location, including balance inquiries, transaction viewing, transfers between accounts, and viewing alerts. It also allows users to do some things that aren’t possible in the bank, such as making payments directly from the mobile phone (thanks to Jack Henry’s NetTeller Bill Pay solution).

The software runs in a Web browser; is compatible with any Web-enabled cell phone, regardless of make or phone carrier; and works with all three of Jack Henry’s core banking systems: SilverLake, CIF 20/20, and Core Director. All account types, including checking and credit accounts, are supported by the software.

Since goDough launched, 103 Jack Henry customers have adopted the software, putting the product in the hands of hundreds of thousands of people. The system has been implemented across 34 mobile service carriers and dozens of types of cell phones, proving its capability to cross mobile boundaries.

goDough looks to be a big hit in the years to come for Jack Henry, according to Kathy Hooker Burress, president of Symitar, a subsidiary of Jack Henry.

“Mobile banking is a rapidly emerging, service-related technology that enables members to stay even more connected to their credit unions,” Hooker Burress says. “This member-facing technology expands the ‘anytime’ convenience we now expect with Internet banking with the ‘anytime and anywhere’ convenience of mobile banking.”
