  • PHP and JavaScript Come Together in Zend Studio 8

    August 24, 2010 Alex Woodie

Peanut butter and jelly. Jimmy Page and Robert Plant. Some things are just better together. And with last month’s release of the first beta for Zend Studio 8, Zend Technologies is making the case that JavaScript, the foremost client-side scripting language, and PHP, the popular server-side scripting language, should be developed together, in the same IDE, where they can harmoniously interact, to the betterment of society–not to mention the Web development project at hand.

Once maligned for its role in Internet security breaches–particularly for cross-site scripting flaws, which is still a big concern–JavaScript is surging in popularity these days as

  • SafeStone Taps RSA for SIEM Expertise

    August 24, 2010 Alex Woodie

Safestone Technologies has long been a partner of RSA Security and used the security giant’s expertise in authentication to bolster the environments of its IBM System i customers. With this month’s update to Safestone’s security software, the vendors have strengthened the partnership with an IBM i connection to RSA’s security information and event management (SIEM) system.

Safestone says it worked closely with RSA (a division of EMC) to launch i Connect, which is a new component of the DetectIT suite that’s designed to move IBM i log data to enVision, RSA’s SIEM solution.

The i Connect product watches for

  • SkyView Gets Tough on User Profiles

    August 24, 2010 Alex Woodie

Hackers get all the glory, but statistics show a company is more likely to suffer a security-related loss at the hands of an employee. To that end, a new release of SkyView Partners‘ security and compliance product should make it easier for System i shops to establish and maintain a good internal security posture when it comes to their users and user profiles. Policy Minder version 1.5, which debuts next month, includes new features aimed at identifying user profiles that are unnecessarily lax.

Surveys repeatedly show that the average System i shop isn’t as serious about security as it

  • Profound Updates I/O Handler for RPG Open Access

    August 24, 2010 Alex Woodie

The developers at Profound Logic have been busy this summer with Profound UI, Profound’s graphical user interface development tool that uses IBM‘s new Rational Open Access RPG Edition technology. The product, which is the first commercially available “I/O handler” that uses the RPG Open Access technology, has been updated several times since its initial release in the spring.

Profound Logic gained some notoriety in April when it became the first IBM i ISV to actually ship an I/O handler for Open Access, the much-ballyhooed technology that provides a way for RPG programs to talk directly to Web browser interfaces.

  • LogLogic Strives to Create Better Visibility of Log Data

    August 24, 2010 Alex Woodie

The exponential growth of information stored on computers is a well-documented phenomenon. But equally important, at least from the point of view of IT administrators and auditors, is the incredible growth of data generated by servers, PCs, routers, disk arrays, and other computer devices. LogLogic, which develops log management and SIEM solutions, recently introduced new tools aimed at roping in the log data problem.

LogLogic sells a range of log data devices designed to help organizations manage their log data for a variety of purposes, including real-time monitoring, after-the-fact forensics, long-term archives, and regulatory compliance. The vendor supports network

  • Third-Party ERP Support Does Save Money, Nucleus Says

    August 24, 2010 Alex Woodie

Nearly all the third-party providers of support for ERP applications do it. They all make the claim that customers can save at least 50 percent off the cost they’d pay to get patches, updates, and tech support from Oracle or SAP. Now, Rimini Street, the largest of the third-party providers, has brought the claim a little more–just a teensy, weensy bit more–substantiation with a commissioned report from Nucleus Research.

The first thing you should know about the five-page research note that Nucleus Research put together for Rimini Street, titled “Benefits from Third Party Support: Rimini Street,” is
