    February 15, 2011 Alex Woodie

TPS Systems this month delivered an IBM i client for TPS/NetWork File Manager, a managed file transfer (MFT) product that’s based on a proprietary communications protocol. The Texas company, which got its start writing utilities for the old IBM Series/1 minicomputer, developed an IBM i client for NetWork File Manager to satisfy demand from its customers to support the Power Systems environment.

TPS/NetWork File Manager (NFM) is a client-server MFT solution designed to give users more control over file transfer activities than they would have using standard FTP programs. The software offers common MFT features such as scheduling, auditing, reporting,

    February 15, 2011 Alex Woodie

Whether or not your applications run in “the cloud” or on a server located in room 23, you have a need for data and process integration. One vendor that’s trying to leverage the software as a service (SaaS) advantage for on-premise and hosted integration routines is Hubspan. Last week, the Seattle, Washington, software developer unveiled a cloud-based integration solution for companies in the biotech industry.

Hubspan was founded in 2000 with the goal of delivering B2B integration as a service that’s accessed over the Web. Since then, some of the terms have changed, notably “the cloud,” which now seems

  • TrendMicro Claims Full Coverage of 64-Bit Domino with ScanMail

    February 15, 2011 Alex Woodie

With the new support for Linux on z/OS with ScanMail for Lotus Domino version 5.0, antivirus software developer TrendMicro claims it is the only security software vendor to support all 64-bit Domino platforms. And while version 5.0 doesn’t yet run on IBM i, the once-popular Domino environment is still supported with an older release of ScanMail.

ScanMail for Domino version 5, which was launched a year-and-a-half ago, protects Lotus Domino users against viruses, spyware, spam, and other Internet-borne security problems that would otherwise flourish in a rich collaboration environment. In addition to scanning all incoming e-mail, the software detects

  • Vision Re-Brands HA Portfolio Under ‘Availability’ Moniker

    February 15, 2011 Alex Woodie

Vision Solutions is renaming some of its products to better reflect its breadth of solutions following last year’s acquisition of Double-Take Software. High availability (HA) solutions will be grouped under the “Availability” name, while disaster recovery (DR) products will be labeled “RecoverNow.”

The current round product renaming kicked off last year when Vision launched MIMIX Availability 7, its new flagship HA product that combines code acquired from Lakeview Technology with Vision’s own ORION HA product line.

At some point in the last couple of months, Vision changed the name of its entry-level IBM i HA solution, which was previously called

  • Aldon Rolls Out Windows Version of Agile ALM Tool

    February 15, 2011 Alex Woodie

Aldon this month took the wraps off the Windows version of Agile Manager, which is Aldon’s new application lifecycle management (ALM) tool for helping development teams adopt agile programming methods.

Programmers of all stripes are adopting so-called agile methods that break up the development cycle into smaller, self-contained chunks that yield working software components in shorter amounts of time. Adherents to the technique cite agile’s power to keep them more focused on customer requirements, and not get bogged down with “big bang” programming efforts that often miss the mark.

In December, Aldon rolled out the first release of Aldon Agile
