  • Dynamically Invoke SQL UDFs From RPG Code

    September 7, 2011 Hey, Mike

I’m wondering if it is possible to use dynamic SQL (prepare/execute or execute immediate) to call a User Defined [scalar] Function (UDF).

I understand we can use the SET statement in our code but we would like to “soft” code some RPG business logic and we are looking at having the RPG code dynamically call certain UDFs based on certain conditions. So it would be nice to create dynamic SQL statements to call certain UDFs. Thanks!

    Hi, Brian:

Today is your lucky day because there is a way to do this. Starting with V5R1, the VALUES INTO statement can

NOTE: The code accompanying this article is available for download here.

In my last article, I introduced you to the Adobe Flash Builder tool and showed you just how easy it is to create Flash-based user interfaces. In addition, I showed you how to integrate Flash components that other people create without having to know much, if anything, about them. And I told you that in future articles I would be showing you how to use Flash Builder to display and interact with iSeries DB2/400 data.

Well, the future has arrived! In this article, which is the first

    September 6, 2011 Alex Woodie

IBM i shops that have selected IntelliChief as their document and content management standard will soon be using IBM technology if they choose to use IntelliChief’s optical character recognition (OCR) software, called IntelliChief Capture Enterprise.

In early August, IntelliChief announced that it has entered into an agreement with IBM to use its OCR functionality with IntelliChief Capture Enterprise. OCR technology eliminates the need for humans to enter data by using scanners that read the data from fields in structured and semi-structured forms, as well as some unstructured sources, too.

“Offering IntelliChief customers full OCR capabilities enables them to accelerate document

  • Oracle Loses to SAP in Appeals Court

    September 6, 2011 Alex Woodie

Last week a federal judge threw out the $1.3 billion penalty that a jury awarded to Oracle in its TomorrowNow patent infringement case against SAP, and suggested Oracle accept $272 million, or the actual damages that Oracle proved in the case. Oracle says it plans to fight the decision in a bid to uphold the original damages, which means a new trial is likely.

The $1.3 billion verdict against Oracle was “grossly excessive,” U.S. District Judge Phyllis Hamilton wrote in a ruling released last week. Hamilton, who issued a ruling in SAP’s appeal of the case in the U.S.

  • looksoftware Wants it Rich and Thin

    September 6, 2011 Dan Burger

Sometimes we all get tired of people telling us we can’t have it both ways. It has to be one or the other. A good example is the comparison between thin client and rich client. Thin client is popular because it’s convenient. Rich clients are a really graphical, really responsive interface. looksoftware believes they have narrowed the gap between those two with its introduction of lookserver 9.

This latest version of looksoftware’s server-based tool that delivers IBM i applications as HTML Web pages and published Web services has put its emphasis on being fast and easy and good looking. Is
