  • It’s D-Day For Cybersecurity, AI Firms Warn

    August 31, 2026 Alex Woodie

The idea of sophisticated AI agents coordinating among themselves to launch a cyberattack on a major corporation sounds like something out of a science fiction novel. But it actually occurred earlier this year, and the agentic attacks will get more sophisticated soon if we don’t act swiftly to shore up defenses in legacy systems (like IBM i), a group of AI firms warned this month.

In an open letter, the leaders of 100 AI companies, including IBM, Google, Anthropic, and OpenAI, warned that the recent episodes of AI agents going rogue and launching sophisticated attacks on …

  • Guru: Claude’s SQL Tip

    August 10, 2026 Ted Holt

Today’s tip comes to us from Claude, as in the AI chatbot created by Anthropic. I don’t need to introduce him. Many readers of this august publication are far better acquainted with him than I am. I have heard reports of IBM i programmers who have quit writing source code, telling Claude to write it for them. Some folks seem to be right proud of that fact. Furthermore, I’m told that some places no longer allow humans to write source code.

I had a few ideas in mind for this article and was weighing the merits of each one when …

  • PTC Adds Support For VS Code With Implementer 12.7

    June 15, 2026 Alex Woodie

IBM i shops that rely on PTC’s Implementer software to manage their RPG development will soon be able to use the tool within the VS Code development environment. The software traces its roots to 1987, when four Pansophic (creators of the PRMS ERP system now owned by Infor) employees founded Silvon Software in Chicago. One of their first products was a tool to manage source code …

    May 4, 2026 Alex Woodie

Thanks to AI tools like Bob and Claude, IBM i shops are changing how they develop code. AI tools can crank out RPG much faster, but the quality is inherently suspect, which makes having a solid change management life cycle very important. It’s the perfect setup for the folks at Eradani, who say their IBM i change management tool’s native integration with Git provides the right capabilities at the right time.

What makes Eradani’s approach to supporting Git with its Eradani DevOps offering is the lack of compromise. Instead of splicing Git support into an existing change management product, …
