How Long Before Big Blue Brings Code Assist To IBM i?

IBM Research and Big Blue’s Software group have been collaborating to bring generative AI capabilities to market through the Watsonx stack of large language models and related tools. Watsonx is a basis for customers to create customized LLMs based on data from their own businesses and to integrate the quasi-cognitive capabilities of LLMs into their applications.

Watsonx is also being used by IBM to augment some tools of its own, and the most recent one that will be in tech preview in September and generally available sometime in the fourth quarter is called Watsonx Code Assistant for Z, which as …

SOAP Web Services Fail After WebSphere Liberty Patched

If you had not yet gotten around to putting the October 2022 HTTP Group PTF patches for the WebSphere Liberty web application server on your IBM i system, that may turn out to be a fortunate thing. There is something wonky about SOAP web services running in conjunction with Integrated Web Services (IWS v2.6) and Integrated Application Server (IAS v8.5) middleware on the IBM i platform that is causing SOAP fault errors.

The cybersecurity world has been sitting on pins and needles for the past 48 hours, ever since news of a potentially devastating new flaw in OpenSSL started to leak out early Monday morning. IBM Patches Nine Security Flaws in IBM i

IBM patched issued three security bulletins Friday alerting IBM i users to the availability of patches for nine newly disclosed security vulnerabilities in OpenSSL, HTTP Server, and a WebSphere Liberty components. Some of the vulnerabilities are potentially serious and should be patched immediately.

IBM patched two security flaws its OpenSSL API that potentially could have devastating consequences on impacted systems, including enabling a hacker to take over the server, to read sensitive information, and execute a denial of service (DOS) attack.
