  • Vision Solutions Partners with SASIT Down Under

August 11, 2008 Timothy Prickett Morgan

High availability software maker Vision Solutions, which sells products aimed predominantly at the i and AIX platforms, last week announced it is partnering with Systems Advisory Services, a long-time IBM platform expert, to expand its reach in the Asia/Pacific region.

The company, which calls itself SASIT (the “IT” part is a superscript, but we do not do non-standard ASCII characters here at IT Jungle), was founded by Doug Brooker, still the company’s managing director, in 1974 as a service bureau that offered data processing on IBM System/360 and System/370 mainframes and System/3 minicomputers. And interestingly, with the general availability of the System/38 back in the early 1980s, the company got way ahead of the IT curve and offered application hosting for RPG applications on the System/38 starting in 1981. While Brooker and his wife, Anna, still own all of SASIT, they hired IT industry veteran Phil Martin in 2004 to take the role of chief executive officer. The company has 45 full-time employees, and says that it does not like to hire part-timers and contract workers; it maintains partnerships with IBM, Hewlett-Packard, Sun Microsystems, Oracle, Citrix Systems, and Cisco Systems. SASIT has a long-time focus on high availability, and offers its customers a service called Last Minutes, which helps companies recover from system crashes.

“Vision Solutions’ innovative technologies add value in the areas of infrastructure management and business continuity/high availability, reducing staffing requirements and risks associated with system outages,” said Martin in announcing the partnership. “We are excited about this partnership, as we already have a number of customers using Vision products and have been impressed by the sophistication and capabilities that the Vision products deliver. For SASIT, it was a natural progression to move to a formal reseller status to ensure that we could provide additional support to our customer base, and also take these solutions to the wider market.” SASIT, says Martin, plans to recommend Vision’s iTera HA, ORION, EchoStream, and Director products to its customers.
