TMW to Add .NET Features to i OS-Based Trucking App

Version 8 of TMW Systems' TL2000 suite of trucking software started shipping at the end of 2008. And in the next few weeks or months, the product's IBM System i user base can expect to receive several updates in the form of .NET-based Web components originally developed for TMW's Windows trucking software.

TMW announced the general availability of TL2000 version 8 late last year. The new release brings several functional enhancements, including error-checking for driver-entered data in mobile communications, easier edits to correct dispatch data, and tighter menu-level security.

The new release also gets integration with ISDC ExpertFuel fuel-optimization technology, which TMW obtained with its acquisition of ISDC in September 2007. ExpertFuel combines a subscription to fuel-pricing data with route mapping software to help larger shipping fleets get the best deal on gasoline and diesel during their runs.

Ray West, who holds the titles of TL2000 general manager and product manager, says some of the largest carriers report greater operational efficiencies with version 8. "Customers are excited about the additional power and improved features of this latest version," he says.

But it's what's coming down the pike that will be of most interest to current TL2000 customers.

TMW announced that early 2009 will see the delivery of several enhancements to TL2000's Web functionality through a "standardized Web framework" that's based on "TMW's next-generation .NET platform," and developed by the vendor's cross-platform development team.

The new .NET apps include DriverSeat, CarrierHub, and eStat 2.0. DriverSeat, which is available today, is a Web portal that functions as a recruiting tool and an information conduit for existing drivers. Prospective drivers can use it to fill out applications, while existing employees can do things such as view routes, submit time-off requests, and see a preview of settlements.

CarrierHub, which is expected for TL2000 soon, is a private load brokerage portal for freight operators. The application allows TL2000 users to present available loads to their brokered carrier population, and also lets them update their load status directly. eStat is a self-service online portal for shippers' customers. The application gives customers a way to submit RFQs, tender shipments, and then track the progress of their loads online. eStat focuses on a company’s drivers and owner/operators. CarrierHub, available for TL2000 in early 2009, extends connectivity to a company’s brokered carrier base, while a newly enhanced eStat 2.0 offers self-service opportunities for shippers.

West says the ongoing investment and development in System i and .NET technology "products demonstrates TMW's commitment to keep our customers current with technology and significant business trends."
