Lotus Web Content Tool Gets Easy-to-Use HTML Editor

Published: March 31, 2009

by Alex Woodie

IBM last week unveiled an update to its Lotus Web Content Management software that includes a second HTML editor that users can access from a Web browser. The new editor that ships with version 6.1 is an OEM'ed version of an Ephox product called EditLive that is designed to be easier to use by non-technical users.

According to Ephox, its IBM Lotus Web Content Management (LWCM) provides a Word-like interface "that is easy for business users who know nothing about HTML and want to keep it that way."

IBM says the software will free users from relying on technical staff to create rich Web documents, while helping to ensure that content is rendered correctly on all browsers with centralized style sheet controls that reduce time previously wasted on formatting.

The new editor will ship alongside the current HTML editor in LWCM, called the ODC editor. IBM says it added the product, which has been available from Ephox since 2005, in response to customer requests. More than 110 customers have implemented Ephox's product with LWCM, IBM says.

The new EditLive editor brings a host of new features, including WYSIWYG formatting, spell-check-as-you-type, the capability to paste cleanly from Word, support for XHMTL 1.0, dictionaries for multiple languages, full-screen view, hyperlinks and bookmarks, online forms, shortcut keys, source code editor, and undo and redo.

The software became available March 27. For more information, visit IBM United States Software Announcement 209-059.
