JAMS Gets More Robust IBM i Scheduling Agent

Customers who use the JAMS job scheduler from MVP Software Systems can benefit from a more robust IBM i agent that delivers better monitoring, logging, and integration with jobs on other platforms, the software vendor announced last week.
JAMS (Job Access Management System) is a .NET-based job scheduler that's heavily focused on helping to automate production Windows environments. However, not all of MVP's 750-plus customers are using the software in Windows-only environments, and a fraction of them also use JAMS in Linux, Unix, OpenVMS, and IBM i environments. MVP rolled out support for the IBM i platform in 2009.
Last week, MVP announced it has created a new System i agent that delivers significant new capabilities on the IBM i platform that were not available when the company first supported the platform two years ago.
Better integration between jobs running on IBM i servers and those running on Windows and Linux servers may be the biggest new feature. The company says its JAMS scheduler can now resolve dependencies and trigger tasks on the System i from events occurring on Windows or Linux systems.
MVP says the new agent also allows users to monitor IBM i jobs from the JAMS Monitor. Users can also drill down into IBM i batch log files from the JAMS GUI, the vendor says.
"Our clients have been asking for System i support so we delivered," states Rick Smith, an employee with Farmington, Connecticut-based MVP. "We tested the System i agent in more than a dozen existing client installations and the feedback was extremely positive."
