  • Quadrant Updates Fax Server Software

    July 19, 2005 Alex Woodie

Quadrant Software recently issued an update to its FastFax eFax server software, which is used in OS/400, Windows, and NetWare environments. FastFax version 4.6.1 features a number of enhancements, including support for searchable PDFs, administrative improvements, a new API, and support for the latest products from IBM Lotus and Xerox.

FastFax is a full-function fax environment that lets OS/400 users create, send, receive, and manage their faxes. The product is available in various bundles, including FastFax/Enterprise and FastFax/Ultra for iSeries environments, FastFax/LAN for Novell and Windows environments, and FastFax/Blue, which augments IBM’s OS/400 Facsimile Support/400 for enhanced inbound and outbound faxing.

What separates FastFax from other fax software on the market, Quadrant says, is its interface to third-party applications, including OS/400 ERP and productivity software, such as Microsoft Exchange and Outlook and IBM Lotus Notes and Domino. The capability to create, send, receive, and manage documents as faxes from these environments makes users more productive, the company says.

With FastFax/Enterprise version 4.6.1, the company has introduced the capability to create and deliver documents as PDF attachments with searchable text and full color formatting. PDFs sent with version 4.6.1 of the FastFax engine look more professional and allow users to search text, Quadrant says.

This release also brings system administrators the capability to have all FastFax system messages delivered directly to their e-mail inbox. By having FastFax system messages–such as delivery status, system alerts, and updates–e-mailed directly to administrators, FastFax users can keep better track of their fax environment, the company says.

Quadrant has also enhanced the FastFax LAN API with improved auto-purge functionality, which allows administrators greater control over saving and deleting fax jobs without manual intervention, the company says. FastFax 4.6.1 also works with any Microsoft Windows application that can produce PCL output.

All versions of FastFax feature better integration with Xerox’s multi-function printers (MFP) and WorkCentre devices. Faxes delivered from Xerox MFPs can now be delivered, tracked, managed, and archived from within the FastFax environment, allowing for greater centralized control over document delivery and management, Quadrant says.

Lastly, FastFax version 4.6.1 now supports Lotus Notes 6.5.2 and 6.5.3, the company says. For more information visit www.quadrantsoftware.com.
