  • Common User Group Starts Midrange Career Center

    The COMMON user group Web site has launched an online job service for companies looking to hire iSeries experts and for iSeries experts looking for new jobs. The Common Career Center is located at http://careercenter.common.org, and is one of a number of such job posting areas that are hosted by interested parties in the OS/400 community.

    The job posting areas are open to the 22,000 members of the COMMON user group as well as to any company or individual who is not a member. The employer side of the site allows employers to post jobs online, search for candidates based on various criteria, and enlist the help of an online resume agent (a program, of course, not a person) to e-mail qualified candidates. Those looking for work can post their resumes and scan through available jobs using various criteria they set, and they can set up an agent to email them when a job posting matches their criteria. Both areas also have RSS feeds if you prefer that to email notification.

    “We’re very excited about COMMON Career Center, because we know how critical it is for IT employers to attract first-rate talent with a minimum expenditure of time and resources,” explained Beverly Russell, president of the user group, in a statement announcing the opening of the job center. “And it’s important for us help enable smooth career transitions for IBM users seeking industry jobs.”
