  • Aldon Inks Agreement with Nordic Distributor

July 16, 2007 Timothy Prickett Morgan

Application lifecycle management software maker Aldon last week said that it has partnered with SOSY as its distributor in the Nordic countries.

SOSY, which is based outside of Copenhagen in Denmark, was founded in 1989 and has become a distributor of a number of different AS/400, iSeries, and System i products as it has grown its business over the years. The Danish company started out selling the Robot systems management and automation products from Help/Systems, and in 1998 it began reselling DataMirror‘s high availability and data replication software in Denmark, Sweden, Finland, and Norway. In 2002, software change management software maker SoftLanding Systems, one of Aldon’s rivals in the OS/400 and i5/OS systems market, signed a partnership deal with SOSY for its change management and related tools to be peddled in the Nordic region. Last year, SOSY became the Nordic distributor of an iSeries and System i performance management tool called GiAPA, put out by a Danish company called iPerformance. The company also has partnerships with Original Software for reselling its TestBench software testing products and with EDB Gruppen, a Danish supplier of ERP software that runs on the OS/400 and i5/OS platform that uses SOSY to implement clustering for its customers in the Nordic region.

Having SOSY distribute its products in the Nordic region is a big deal for Aldon, which was trying to grow its business even before it was acquired by Marlin Equity Partners in May. Aldon said that SOSY had only inked the deal a week ago and was already working on its first implementation of the Aldon Suite at a customer site.

“SOSY is a well established, successful, and highly respected company in the Nordic region,” said David Lefkowich, vice president of global sales at Aldon. “They bring us a strong and much needed local presence, both technically and commercially, and their strength in the financial sector is a perfect match for us.”

“It was important to find a company whose approach matches our own: a commitment to supply the best quality products and support,” said Helle Mering, managing director of SOSY in a statement accompanying the announcement. “The Aldon Suite is a strong change management solution that allows us to offer solutions to both the open systems and System i worlds and also includes Web-based incident, change request, and requirements management functionality.”

Of course, the reseller deal with SOSY not only means the ability to chase more revenue, it also makes it harder for SoftLanding Systems to go into the Nordic countries. SoftLanding has been very quiet since it was acquired last October by Unicom Systems. SOSY did not say anything in the comment above about stopping sales of SoftLanding’s products, but SoftLanding is no longer listed on the partners page on its Web site and sources at Aldon have confirmed that SOSY is not reselling SoftLanding’s products any longer.
