Infinite Software Introduces New Features for App Migration Tool

Infinite Software (formerly California Software), a provider of tools for migrating i5/OS applications to Windows, Unix, and Linux, has released its latest version of its Infinite iSeries Suite of rehosting tools that includes compilers, utilities, and a deployment environment.

The enhancements included in what is referred to as Version 4.00.05 provide expanded support for complex date and time functions; basing pointers and pointer arithmetic; improvements in the handling of large files, including database files and larger database keys; plus support for Oracle‘s 10g and newly released 11g databases.

The company is also touting improved and extended support for embedded SQL and enhanced performance for embedded SQL and ODBC code.

The Web components of the Infinite iSeries Suite now include the integration of “click once” technology, which replaces “rich client” methodology. Officials at Infinite Software say this provides better styles inheritance and application management behavior, an expanded SOA implementation based on easy-to-use wizards, and improvements to overall visibility. In addition, the business intelligence capabilities have also been expanded, particularly in the area of scheduling.

The rehosting suite also includes the INFINITEweb tools used in developing custom screen designs, Web deployments, and the integration of the legacy applications.

Roll out of version 4.00.05 to new and existing clients will occur over the next few months, according to Bruce Acacio, chief executive officer of Infinite Software.
