  • iSociety Chat: Preparing for the Move to i5/OS V6R1

September 17, 2007 Timothy Prickett Morgan

This Wednesday, the iSociety i5/OS and OS/400 community will host a chat that that your programmers and system administrators should probably listen in on if your company has any plans to move to i5/OS V6R1 when it becomes available next year.

Paul Gotland, the software development engineer from the Rochester Lab who is intimately familiar with the inner workings of the microcode, technology independent machine interface, and compilers of the AS/400, iSeries, and System i servers, will be hosting a fireside chat on the things people have to do to prepare for the move to V6R1. We covered the program conversion issue related to the move to V6R1 a month ago in i5/OS V6R1: The TIMI, It Is A-Changing, but there are undoubtedly questions you have about the issue that only Gotland can answer.

Anyway, you can participate in the chat at this link; it starts at 12 p.m. central time on September 19. (I will miss the chat because I will be down at the SAP “A1S” launch here in New York.) My advice is to read the related Redpaper on the issue well in advance of the chat, which is in the set of links below, before attending.
